Hello, Oregon Coast!

Hi, stitching friends!

We made it to the Oregon Coast this afternoon.

During our flight, I snapped a picture of the Snake River and the snowy mountains in the distance, the clouds blanketing everything. It was a smooth flight, but as we started to descend, my ears felt like someone was stabbing them with an ice pick. I hate getting my ears to pop, especially when I’m getting over a cold.

On our way to Depoe Bay, we stopped at Starlight Stitchery in Corvallis, a real life needlework shop! I was in heaven. Shawn waited patiently as I browsed. “I’m almost done,” I kept reassuring him. “Take your time,” he said. Is there a husband-of-the-year award? I mean, for real? He deserves it.

I picked out some new things to add to my stash:

I think our friends might appreciate “Cabin Sweet Cabin” as a thank you for hosting us at their cabin so often. I wanted “Winter Saltboxes” the moment it came out, and “Autumn ABCs” is just a must-have.

I picked up a few small-project charts as well, and I asked Shawn if he saw anything he liked. He showed me this:

I have so many Halloween stitches already, but I can’t resist when he picks something. I love the colors.

Shawn told me we can stop at the stitchery store on our way home, too, if I want. I don’t think we will, but he is so sweet. How did I get so lucky?

Our home-away-from-home in Depoe Bay, a rental condo, is gorgeous and cozy. The ocean is right out the back door.

I hope you all find time to be in your happy place. You deserve it! Looking forward to a week of exploring, relaxing, stitching, and being with my favorite person in the world.

  4. What a beautiful place to spend some time Meg. I love everything you chose at the Cross Stitch Shop. I am collecting each season of the Salt Box Shakers. So far I have not stitched a one but I wanted them for later.:) Right now I am working on my Snowmen Triplets and I might even stitch monogamously until they are done. I just love them. Tell your sweet husband he has the admiration of all your fellow stitchers for his patience in your happy place.:)

We are lucky to have a wonderful Cross stitch and needlework shop here in Minnesota, Stitchville USA, I bet it was like Christmas to be in that shop, so many wonderful choices to add to your stash, lucky girl.

  9. How exciting to get to a cross stitch shop!! What a great haul! How sweet that Shawn is willing to spend more time in the cross stich shop!! He is a keeper. I bet the sound of the waves is so relaxing. I'm looking forward to seeing more photos from you when you get home. Savor every minute of this beautiful spot.

  10. Oh Meg, so happy you are having this special week with Shawn..what a beautiful spot to relax, regroup and STITCH!!! There is nothing like a visit to a brick and mortar shop and your purchases are all better get those stitchy fingers going!
Can you tell me what Canasta app you use? I grew up playing Canasta with my grandmother and loved the game; it's hard to find someone to plat with these days. Thanks in advance and enjoy your week!

  11. What a special place you're in for the week, Meg! I'm sure you'll make many wonderful memories...

I feel for you with the ear thing when flying. I've been reduced to tears several times on long-distance flights (from Argentina and Europe and to California) as I am prone to the same piercing pain. It is almost unbearable and in one case I actually lost the hearing in one ear for several days. Makes me very nervous about flying with a cold!

That is so wonderful that your husband encourages you to take your time in a stitching shop! And I love what he selected. You will have fun stitching it for him and your finish will always help you remember this special trip to the Oregon Coast ♥

  12. Oh how nice. The sound of the ocean always reminds me of home. No other sound is as relaxing to me than the sound of the ocean. Wow, that is some loot you got there. I am trying to hard to remain strong and NOT be pulled into your web of cross, no...I must crochet/knit.....not cross stitch....Mo is of course, is beside himself going on and on about just how cute the salt box houses are (he likes the one with the reindeer in the sky flying over the houses) and the Halloween quaker, he loves but says the witch did he put it, "scary, no wonder those cats have raised their backs!" That's our friend Mo for ya! I think they all looks awesome and look forward to seeing what you do with them all. I always enjoy seeing the extra special touches that you do to make designs your own. You have such a great eye for design and finishing. Enjoy your time away sweet friend. ((hugs))

  13. How wonderful. I'm glad to hear your hubby is like that. I'm very lucky to have one just like it. But boy I've heard horror stories of what it's like to have the opposite. What a GORGEOUS place. Goes without me saying...I bet you will enjoy.

  14. Oh my, that condo looks amazing! And Oregon coast is just so beautiful. I'm glad you got to pick out some stitching goodies, your husband is a keeper for waiting like that :D

  15. Thanks for taking us with you on your journey, it looks like a beautiful place to spend some time away.
Fun patterns, I love the Halloween Quaker!
