Just Call Me Hopalong

Hi, stitching friends!

Here is my view today from my couch, where I have been spending way too much of my day lately. I apparently broke my foot 2-3 weeks ago. I was just walking into the kitchen and POP! I felt this very sharp pain in my foot. I hobbled around on it for a couple weeks, thinking it was just tendinitis or my imagination. On Friday my doc ordered X-rays and we found out it was broken.

Luckily, a family friend is a well-known foot and ankle surgeon and he pulled my X-rays up at home this weekend. He thinks it may be broken in two places. He suggested I wear this lovely boot and stay off it, so I have an accompanying rolling scooter, which, to be honest, is pretty fun to roll around on.

By the way, my current stitching project is “Welcome Christmas” by The Drawn Thread. As you can see from all the little holes, I have done quite a lot of frogging on it. I just wasn’t loving the green for the letters and decided to try them in navy blue. I would have scrapped the whole thing and started over, but I just finished the over-one stitching on the stockings and couldn’t bear to start those over again.

Happy Mail

Today’s mail brought this sweet Halloween envelope and needle book from Stasibee. Isn’t she the greatest? I’ve been feeling kinda down and this lifted my spirits. Thank you, Stasi! ❤️

So, I need help coming up with a good story to explain how I broke my foot. Any suggestions? I was thinking I could tell people I was helping my husband on the ranch when I saw a 2,000-pound bull charging toward him. I threw myself in front of the bull, and the bull veered off at the last second, avoiding plowing into me but stepping on my foot. Better story, yes? What are your ideas?

Have a wonderful week, friends, and don’t be clumsy like me!

Your friend,
Hopalong

  1. Oh god Meg, I wish you a speedy recovery, that sounds bad. Take care.
Hihi - the story with the bull is fun, I have to smile. But I can not think of anything right now.
    Have a nice week, Martina

  4. Meg, glad you like your little "treat". You can also use it as an ort catcher....the corduroy fabric inside can "catch" your discarded threads.
I'm thinking the bull story can't be beat!!! Take care of yourself!

  5. The bull story would be quite full of bull shall we say:) I am so sorry that you walked around on for days thinking it wasn't broken. Yuk. I hope it heals up quickly, but in the meantime it gives you a great excuse to be stitching. I hate ripping out, but it is oft a necessity. I like the navy you are using now.

  6. Oh Meg, I am sorry about your foot. I hope it heals fully and doesn't present issues down the road for you. On the plus side, look at all the time you have to stitch. What a fun ort catcher/needle book you received! Thinking of you!

  7. Welcome Christmas is a fabulous pattern! Stasi is a real sweetheart. I am so sorry to hear about your foot. Do you know I hurt my foot back in August execising? I finally decided to see my physician this month. The x-rays show no break. I can't get into the orthopedic unitl the end of the month. I am in moderate pain til then and not allowed to use the treadmill til then. I usually use it daily.

  8. Oh boo hiss...but on the positive side, more stitching time. I got my C and C Halloween box yesterday when I got home from GA. Did you receive yours? I love ALL the things and I am hoping they will do a Christmas box as well. Take care of that foot!

  9. I think the bull story is pretty good but as someone raised around rodeo and cowboys, I would say you attempted to ride him and as he was leaving the chute, he smashed into the gate and your foot was in the way! All I can say is, make the most of your recuperation and stitch stitch stitch! Always nice to get fun mail:)

  10. The bull story is awesome. I'd go with that. I send prayers for a quick healing, and hope you get to feeling better soon. ((hugs)). I say this calls for a trip to the LNS. I could send Jo your way if you needed help, he only requires gingersnaps, black coffee, and camels, the kind you smoke, not the two lumps variety. :) Hang in there sweet friend. ((hugs)). I love the "Eat sweets and stay spooky" :)

  11. Sorry about the foot. Don't let that scooter get too wild or another mishap could be in the future! I broke my foot exercising barefoot. True! You can use that if you'd like or stick with the line of bull!

  12. Dear Hopalong: I think your story is perfect, no need to add or change it giggles.
I am so sorry you are having this problem with your foot, I hope it heals super duper fast.
Your Drawn Thread design is adorable.
I am looking forward to seeing it finished, I have been where you are with changing colors.
What a sweet lady Stasi is.

  13. Hey Hopalong! You could always say you have always wanted to try that cute scooter so you seized the opportunity when you found that dreaded frog and broke it kicking him out! Hope it heals quickly for you and won't require surgery. Welcome Christmas looks great.

  14. Gosh, Meg, I'm so sorry to read about your foot! (I've been out of town for a while and am WAY behind on anything blog related). I hope it heals quickly and you can avoid surgery. I've broken the tiny bones on top of my foot twice (once after a heavy bookend fell on top of it while wearing sandals at the library--ouch!!) so I know it takes a while for things to heal.

Such a nice gift from Stasi--she sent me a cute Halloween chart recently, too. Very thoughtful :)

Hope your November is uneventful (!!) and you get lots of stitching time in. Take care now... ♥

  15. Complimenti per il nuovo inizio natalizio, promette bene. Mi dispiace per il tuo piede rotto... come scusa potresti dire la solita storia che sei scivolata nella buccia di banana !

  16. Well shoot, I'm sorry to hear you hurt your foot. The bull story is good, but maybe you could have hurt it while running to the post box to get your happy mail?! And that's some great happy mail!
    Those stocking are adorable.

  17. Meg, Ouch!!! I'm sorry to hear about your foot! I broke my foot falling off my back deck step, not an exciting story. Stasi sent me that adorable needle minder too, she is so kind and talented. I received it when I was down so her thoughtfulness cheered me too. I hope you recover quickly and your stocking are adorable.
